Trauma Sensitive Yoga for Children & Adults with Dreams From Drake

2-3pm / Family Yoga Class

3:30-4:30pm / Adults Only Yoga Class

MEET YOUR SPONSOR: Dreams from Drake is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization that was founded in 2013 by members of Drake’s family, named after Drake Ross Pettit who passed away at the young age of four.

Dreams from Drake is a volunteer organization; funds generated from the foundation will be used to provide children and teens who recently lost a sibling or parent with various forms of community and social support. Dreams from Drake is a recognized 501(c)(3) under the Finger Lakes Area Community Endowment (FLACE) program.

This class is free for members of Dreams from Drake. If you, your family or someone you know would benefit from the services offered by Dreams from Drake, please contact us at info@dreamsfromdrake.org . Please include information about your family’s situation, including information about the loved one lost, and we will be back in touch.

Trauma Sensitive Yoga is an evidence-based support that can help children and adults who have experienced loss and other forms of trauma, reconnect and reintegrate mentally, physically, and emotionally, thereby bridging the gap between living in past trauma and living in the present.

In a trauma sensitive yoga class, verbal guidance such as ‘you are welcome to find your own expression of a triangle form’ or ‘feel free to explore how you would like to place your arms today’ are common as facilitators share power with children.

These invitations could allow children to develop their self expression and confidence. Further as all adults in the room are practicing together with the children forming a shared authentic experience, this relationship of doing something together instead of ‘doing and I am watching’ could form the basis of trust and nurture in relationships.

Trauma Sensitive Yoga can promote:

• Awareness in the present moment

• Development of coping skills, self-control, self-care, and self-regulation

• An authentic, shared experience

• Awareness and identification of emotional and physical sensation

• Exercising personal boundaries, safe experimentation, choice, curiosity, and self-care

• Increase capacity for emotional and physical intimacy

• Self-awareness and introspection, behavioral change, cognitive change, self-acceptance, and sense of connection with others

May Gong Sound Bath with Vesna

Give yourself time to rest, clear your mind and enjoy positive vibrations. This restorative sound healing class will help you to feel uplifted, calmer in your mind and more present in your heart.

WHAT IS A GONG SOUND BATH?

During each Gong sound bath an inner process unfolds. The sound waves have the ability to vibrationally "massage" you all the way down to your cells, balance emotions and help you have a more positive outlook on life. The best part is that all this happens while you're relaxing on the floor, covered with your favorite blanket. Gong baths are balancing and uplifting. They offer a deep mental reset that leaves you so refreshed and renewed that you'll feel like a new person after each session.

CLASS STRUCTURE: During a Gong Sound Bath you'll relax on the floor for about 45 min, covered with a blanket, and just enjoy being "massaged" by the sound waves while Vesna skillfully plays the Gong for you. That's it! Just pure relaxation. No movement is involved.

Pricing: $15 / space reserved for 18 guests

*A Gong Bath is not recommended for pregnant women, people with sensitivity to sound or conditions such as Tinnitus, Menieres and Epilepsy, or people with metal Implants, pins, screws or pacemakers. If you snore heavily we recommend you book a private session with Vesna.

Since space is limited, 72 hours notice must be given and sent via email to Nu in order to receive a full refund.

Closing Reception for 'Four Artists, Infinite Hues: A Collaborative Showcase'

Immerse yourself in a kaleidoscope of creativity where the vibrant visions of four talented artists converge. From bold brushstrokes to intricate patterns, experience a captivating array of artwork that captures the essence of each artist's unique style and voice. Don't miss this inspiring collaboration that celebrates the power of creativity and the beauty of infinite hues.

Molly Darling:
Molly’s artwork explores the interplay between imagination, identity, and emotional complexity, often delving into themes of shame, resilience, and transformation. Using composted materials, mixed media, and layered techniques, their work creates dreamlike inner landscapes that reflect the fragmented yet interconnected nature of human experience, leaving subtle signatures and hidden layers for viewers to discover.

William Rivera-Bloodworth: William (WCRB Design) is an artist and designer who found his passion in abstract painting during the COVID-19 shutdown. His acrylic paintings often explore themes of queerness and neurodivergence through vibrant colors, organic forms, and rich textures.

Carole Sconfitto: Carole is a realistic painter who recently converted to abstract art. Merging her love for miniatures with her background in framing, she is currently delving into the concept of tiny galleries. She custom designs and hand builds micro frames for her miniature paintings - powered by her OCD. She hopes the viewer feels a lightening of spirit when looking at her art.

Pauline Wegman: Pauline is the proud founder and owner of Key and Sea Creative, a thriving creative business that highlights her love for painting and graphic design. She draws inspiration from the intricate beauty of nature, the rich experiences of travel, and the tantalizing colors and textures of food. Her work is characterized by a strong sense of light, vibrant hues, and expressive brushstrokes.

"Four Artists, Infinite Hues" promises an enriching and thought-provoking journey through an array of artistic styles and thematic explorations, culminating in a captivating showcase of boundless creativity and individual expression.

First Friday Closing Reception for 'One People, Many Cultures' a solo exhibit by Dan Caster (Copy)

This collection of portraits represents the diverse mix of indigenous people I have experienced while traveling across this nation. In each work, I have tried to capture the subject's dignity, pride and personal strength. I have also strived to properly represent each individual's unique tribal identity, in both current and historical context, through appropriate regalia and dress.

My choice of gold, silver and copper leaf captures my subject in a unique way, and further adds depth to my depiction of these special people. For those pieces rendered on hides, I tried to directly connect the subject with the natural world as they knew it.

The inspiration for this exhibit are twofold - One being the influence Native American culture had on my upbringing, and Two, my experience serving with these special Americans in the service of our country which is both unknown and often misrepresented. ~Dan Caster

Opening Reception: Friday, November 1st / 6-9pm

Closing Reception: Friday, December 6th / 6-9pm

Men's Circle with Chad Curtis

Men's Circle with Chad Curtis

What is a men’s circle?

In it’s essence, a Men's circle is a ritualized space where men gather to share with a commitment to growth, support and transformation, within a safe, confidential, and constructive environment, that follows the core principles of men’s work. Here, men born in male bodies come together to accept, respect, and commit to the group's purpose and intentions. But what are these intentions, and how do they manifest in the ground rules and agreements that govern these circles?

Principles of men’s circles

Within the container of men's circles, the practice of conscious communication tools is central. It is rooted around three fundamental guidelines:

Staying present - It requires a full shift of attention from inner and outer distractions into the circle, and everything that unfolds within the circle’s time and space. While circling, participants learn to be fully engaged in the present moment, setting aside any external distractions. This shift enables individuals to connect authentically with each other, paving the way for genuine and open communication.

Practicing active listening - Active listening transcends mere hearing: it involves a deep and empathetic understanding of the speaker's words, emotions, and perspectives. Participants are encouraged to suspend judgment and listen without any interruption. This practice not only fosters a sense of validation and respect, but also creates a space where individuals feel heard and understood, facilitating a more profound level of sharing and connection.

Promoting a space conducive to authentic sharing - Emphasis on the importance of establishing an environment that promotes vulnerability and trust. In men's circles this involves fostering a sense of brotherhood, where participants feel secure and supported enough to share their experiences, challenges, breakthroughs and aspirations, without fear of criticism.

These guidelines serve as pillars in this men’s circle for cultivating deep and meaningful connections among participants, allowing them to share, explore and understand their emotions, thoughts and patterns, within a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

Exchange: pay by donation - all amounts are appreciated and a min of $10 is encouraged to help cover the cost to use the space. Venmo: @Chad-Curtis-14 (please put Men’s Circle 9/22 in the notes)
