Belly dance is fun, sensual, and cultural! Belly dance is an umbrella term for dance forms originating in the MEHNAT region – namely Egypt and Turkey. It evolved to the stage from social dances in the Middle East and North Africa, and is currently performed in night clubs, at weddings, and in living rooms all over the world! Danielle’s style of belly dance fuses traditional Middle Eastern movements and musicality with the west-coast American style belly dance that was born out of Renaissance Faires and more contemporary dance forms.
This class provides a foundation in basic belly dance movement. We will focus on technique, posture, and muscle isolations. The class will start with a full-body, dynamic warm-up. We will do some conditioning and strength-training exercises to support our dance, and then move into stationary and travelling drills. We will incorporate the technique we’ve learned into fun combinations to get us dancing and using our skills right away! Expect to learn musicality, personal expression, and some history of the dance as it relates to the cultures it came from!
